Zero to Five Montana now supports a network of peer-led parent/caregiver support groups throughout the state using the Circle of Parents national model. The organization operates this initiative under a contract from the Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services through Children’s Special Health Services.
These local groups offer concrete support and mutual self-help to caregivers raising children with special healthcare needs. At the heart of this model is the drive to reduce child abuse and neglect through uplifting caregivers in supportive environments led by parents with shared experiences. There are currently eight Circle of Parents support groups in Montana serving a diverse group of caregivers and children. There is one virtual group offered to any caregiver statewide who may not have an in-person option in their area or may face other barriers to attend an in-person group.
All Circle groups are free and offer complementary childcare to participants attending in person. Caregivers who attend Circle groups gain access to support in their area through partnership with anchor organizations hosting groups in each community. Caregivers also learn advocacy skills to best navigate special healthcare and early intervention systems as they share their journeys with one another in solidarity and empathy.
Zero to Five Montana is supporting existing groups through 2026 and will explore expansion primarily into tribal communities in 2027. We are honored to support, train and work with these passionate and dedicated caregivers as they serve and uplift one another.
