Why support Zero to Five Montana?
Zero to Five Montana was launched as part of the Headwaters Foundation’s Early Childhood Initiative, established in 2018 and concluding in 2024. That foundational investment seeded our work and set the stage for where we find ourselves now — deeply involved in collective systems change work and on the cusp of transformation for early childhood in Montana.
Headwaters released a report in August 2026 “Investing in Early Childhood: Impacts and Lessons Learned,” examining the challenges and successes of the initiative. It’s a thoughtful look at the power of collective impact.
“Through this work, communities identify what families need and which solutions work locally. Those lessons inform statewide policy and funding conversations through partnerships with organizations like Zero to Five Montana.”

The Headwaters initiative got the ball rolling, and the early childhood work in Montana continues full steam ahead.
